PLN #3
In Cara Haycak's book, Living on Impulse, Mia decides to attempt to steal a shoe from a store, because she believes it is the perfect shoe. This connects to our guiding question, What makes good people do bad things? So far in the book she doesn't seem like a bad person, she just does the wrong things. Mia wanted the shoe, because she thought it was perfect for her sweet 16. Thing is she forgot about the security cameras all around the store. Mia got caught and thought lying would be the perfect way to get out of it. But why would they believe her, she has stolen before. If Mia is a good person, then why is she stealing? Also, why is she only stealing one of the shoes?

Comparing what I am reading to the guiding question
In Impulse by Ellen Hopkins, Connor, Tom, and Vanessa are all good people that got under the influence to attempt the wrong thing, suicide. Connor let what he thought was love take over his natural train of thought. In the end, when it wasn't love, he turned to alcohol and then a gun to over come the pain. Tom's father left him when he was very young with his abusive mother. His mother didn't accept him for being gay, and beat him because of it. This all resulted in him taking over dosages on pills. Vanessa's mother would beat her constantly and then ended up in a psycho institution. Vanessa then found a razor blade to be so relieving of all her pain, that she would cut over and over again. The result, her brother found her in their grandmother's what use to be white bath tub, passed out.
So everyone is a good person, some just feel like they have no other choice but to do the wrong thing. It can be because of the influence they are under that causes them to do such revolting things. In this case they thought the stress would go away and that the world would be better without them, but the world gave them a second chance.

What I have been reading
In Ellen Hopkins book Impulse three teens have been sent to a psychiatric hospital for attempting suicide. All of them to got to the point where they thought enough was enough and they were ready to end it, now they have a second chance. Through out what I have read the teens that are suicidal really depend a lot on each other. One of my friends was suicidal for the longest time and depended a lot on me. This subject really matters to me, because I helped give my friend that second chance and now they are living a healthy, happy life. Suicide is a permanent answer to temporary situations and I helped someone realize that. So I am hoping that the teens in the book get a second chance too even if they are fictional.
